On top of salary, US employers pay 7.65% in FICA tax: 6.2% for Social Security on the first $184,500 of each employee's 2026 wages, plus 1.45% for Medicare on all wages. Employers also pay federal unemployment tax (FUTA), usually 0.6% on the first $7,000 of wages, or $42 per employee, and state unemployment tax, which varies by state. On a $100,000 salary, FICA is $7,650 and FUTA is $42, before state unemployment tax.
For 2026/27, UK employers pay Class 1 National Insurance at 15% on each employee's earnings above £5,000 a year, which is £6,750 on a £50,000 salary. They must also pay at least 3% of qualifying earnings (between £6,240 and £50,270) into a workplace pension for eligible employees. Eligible employers can reduce their total National Insurance bill by up to £10,500 a year with the Employment Allowance, and employers with a pay bill over £3 million also pay the 0.5% Apprenticeship Levy. This calculator applies neither.
Employers pay 12% of PF wages into the Provident Fund. The statutory PF wage ceiling was raised from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month on 17 September 2026, so the mandatory employer contribution is now up to ₹3,000 a month (₹36,000 a year). Employers also pay 3.25% ESI, but only when gross pay is ₹21,000 a month or less. On a ₹10,00,000 salary, ESI does not apply. The calculator also includes EDLI (0.5%) and PF admin charges (0.5%) on PF wages, which brings the employer's PF-related cost to at most ₹39,000 a year.
For 2026, Canadian employers match employee CPP at 5.95% on earnings between $3,500 and $74,600 (up to $4,230.45), plus CPP2 at 4% on earnings from $74,600 to $85,000 (up to $416). They also pay EI premiums at 2.282% on the first $68,900 of earnings (up to $1,572.30). Together that is at most $6,218.75 per employee outside Quebec, which has its own QPP and QPIP rates.
Employers must pay superannuation at 12% of qualifying earnings, up to the 2026-27 maximum contribution base of A$270,830 (about A$32,500 in super). On a A$100,000 salary, that is A$12,000. Payroll tax and workers' compensation vary by state and are not included in this calculator.
It includes statutory employer contributions, statutory employee deductions and, if you switch them on, estimated health and life insurance. It does not include income tax, bonuses, recruitment, onboarding, equipment, software or office costs, so the real cost of an employee is usually higher. For context, US private-industry benefits were 30.0% of employer compensation costs in June 2026, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and that figure includes employer payroll taxes.
For India, the PF switch decides whether employer PF is added on top of the gross salary you enter (on) or treated as part of it (off). The health and life insurance switches add employer-paid estimates to the total cost. They are illustrative figures, not insurer quotes, and they do not change the employee's net salary.
It uses published statutory rates and wage caps for each country, reviewed in October 2026: US and Canada 2026, UK 2026/27, Australia 2026-27, and India including the 17 September 2026 PF ceiling change. State unemployment tax in the US is an average, and income tax is not included. Rates change every year, so confirm figures with a payroll or tax professional before making an offer.
